What's wrong with George Bush?

I was doing the washing up and listening to a humourous quiz programme on radio 4 and one of the participants quoted a really funny thing George Bush said, one of those comical mallapropisms that Doonesbury makes such a play of. It was such a hoot that I remembered it in full - it was in a speech to new immigrants to the US and he said

As your president it's my honour to welcome you to America, and the great thing about this country is that you don't have to listen to me unless you want to

And I thought why in the name of all that's holy is this thought to be ridiculous? - it's one of the noblest and humblest things a head of state could say, and it's something that most heads of state in history, and the heads of state of a large fraction of the world's population today, would only say in a spirit of base hypocrisy; yet in America it is actually true; and that truth is a good part of the reason why many immigrants will have chosen to go there.

Bush is outbound who cares, Why dont hippies get mad about animals or trees or some other thing that is completly out of their
control. This country needs to get rid of Harry Reed and Nancy F**king Pelosi first. They are robbing us of precious oxygen

First off I agree with this article. Second, I am so sick and tired of all the partisan politics that people use on these comments and everywhere else. President Bush is not the greatest president we have had or will have. Many people do not like him, think he is or has done a poor job, etc. The problem however, is not President Bush. It is that most Americans are so wrapped up in blind partisan politics that all they can do is call others names, including our President. I have rarely seen a constructive, intelligent, or reasonable comment in any of these discussions. Most of it is just a bunch of name calling and "Oh yeah?" or whatever. As emm writes on May 8th "im a strong democrat..." and muh writes "He is a christo-fascistic peasant" however, my favorite peice of intellectual debate has been: "bush is a no good wanabee piece of turd".
Really people, do you think this is politics? Do you think you are making a difference in anything? Does anyone really care what you think? Well, actually they do. At the polls. They care so much in fact, that hundreds of millions of dollars are spent on the media to manipulate what you think and how you feel. The truth is that too few Americans vote, and the majority of the ones who do (in my opinion) vote on partisan politics rather than the issues and the candidates positions on the same. Stop writing your comments, search the internet, read, learn and then vote. If you are intelligent enough, Google my name and learn some more...

im am a strong democrat, like most here, and i believe that bush is ruining our country. i thing that he should be impeached. something needs to be done or our country will surely expire.

He is a christo-fascistic peasant. No need to say more...

What's wrong is the undocumented, non taxpaying immigrants.
Millions of the immigrants that people are pissed off about is just this:
THEY DON'T PAY INCOME TAXES.
And then, idiots like us haver our taxes go for their hospitalization, education. housinf etc etc.

Umm Tran, One those weapons were told to be there by George Bush by every major countries intelligence including our own. Saddam refused people to look for them. He used them on his own people. So the no weapons thing really needs to be scratched out. Also the thing is more Iraqi's would of probably died if we had no intervened then have because that we have. Also what do you call liberating a country? Also Alyssa the countries deficit is not Bush's fault. Also if it was because of actions Bush had a hand in you forget about the House of Representatives and the congress which things need to get through before they go out. Also it's put* not but.

Robin wrote on 28 Dec 2004

Surely the point here is not one of what has Bush done for the people of the USA, or anywhere else for that matter, but the recognition that the syatem in the USA allows the people to totally and completely ignore politics, internal or external, if they want to. This can be seen as either good or bad, depending on your own view as toi the real importance of politics and politicians

Alyssa wrote on 9 Feb 2004

I totally agree with Tran ^. I'd also like to add he has but us in a horrendous deficit.

What has bush done for us? Besides barging into Iraq, killing tons of people, AND finding out that there were no weapons. The way i see it, from what people say, Bush is a character who starts something and never finshes it. What has he caused besides pain? With him as president we might as well become anarchists.
